For the last two years, music photographers Joe Kleon and Anastasia Pantsios did one-weekend-only shows of their work in November at the now-closed Loftworks Gallery in AsiaTown, with hundreds of photos available for viewing and for sale by the two artists. With Anastasia beginning her music photography work in the ’70s and Joe shooting from 2003 to this day, the range of artists and types of shots was vast.

The duo decided to try something new this year. The new show Reigning Rock will take place at Survival Kit Gallery at 78th Street Studios (top of the building!), and will be opening on Third Friday, October 18, and closing on Third Friday November 15. In between they’ve got some special events planned. There’ll be a rock & roll open house Saturday 10/19, and on Sun 10/20 music manager David Spero will interview Michael Stanley for an oral history taping. It’s a continuation of a taping begun six years ago at Waterloo’s Space: ROCK Gallery when David and Michael only made it as far as the breakup for the Michael Stanley Band and vowed to finish the story of Michael’s career another day. This is that day.

To coordinate with the taping, Joe and Anastasia will be bringing out a large selection of their photos of Michael and MSB, in both color and black & white, onstage and off, going as far back as 1975. Also, this year, both photographers will be scouring their archives to create a special wall of local musicians artists. You might see someone you know — or yourself!

And on Sat 10/26, The Classic Metal Show, hosted by Chris Akin and Neely, will re-name itself The Cleveland Metal Show and broadcast for six hours from the gallery, interviewing some of the area’s heavy metal stars of the last 35 years. A mammoth display of Cleveland metal photos will be exhibited and offered for sale. A raffle will also be held for a photo prize package.

All the events are free and open to the public.
