Refresh Collective Releases Hip-Hop “Project of Shared Humanity” @ BOP STOP

Wed 10/16 @ 6PM

Dee Jay Doc Harrill’s Refresh Collective has grown in all directions, like a healthy tree. It was formed to empower youth and give them tools for entrepreneurialism and healthier lives through such efforts as a recording studio and a clothing business, and it seems to sprout new projects all the time.

Its latest is a release called Stories of Struggle and Success (vol 1), a community songwriting project described as “a multi-generational, multi-skill level hip-hop project of shared humanity directed by Dee Jay Doc, with the goal to “connect people through honest storytelling and shared lessons learned. Our hope is to refresh others through our stories even as we continue to heal from life’s struggles and grow in our successes.”

They’ll introduce the project with an evening at the BOP STOP that starts at 6pm with a set from DJ Henry, a 12-year-old digital musician who’ll be sharing his all-original sample-based beats. From 6:30-8:30 they’ll share music from the album, followed ay 8:30 by a performance by the duo of MC Kuf Knotz and harpist Christine Elise.

The evening ends with a freestyle/improv jam from 9:30-10pm, where the Refresh Collective house band, Kuf Knotz and Christine Elise will  invite the audience to help them create new songs based on Stories of Struggle and Success.

Tickets are $15.
