Those of you who keep up with efforts to make northeast Ohio cleaner, greener and more environmentally friendly in general undoubtedly have heard about efforts to restore the now-decimated tree canopy that once earned Cleveland the nickname “Forest City.”
Want to help? Ordinary citizens can contribute to this effort by properly planting and caring for trees. Come to a workshop hosted by Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) on “Tree Care and Root Flare Repair,” taking place at (this in itself should be a draw) the Strongsville store of Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream. During the workshop, participants will look at the trees at Mitchell’s and help fix any problems they spot.
There’ll be free tree seedlings while supplies last so you can put into action what you learned from certified arborist Colby Sattler, who will be conducting the workshop.
It’s free but registration is required. Go to cuyahogaswcd or email Amy Roskilly — aroskilly @cuyahogaswcd.org.
