Learn to Advocate for the Arts at Scranton Road Library

Tue 10/22 @ 5PM

The arts is one of the most vibrant sectors of the Northeast Ohio community and economy, generating as much interest and activity as professional sports but with much less support. While Cuyahoga County first passed a cigarette tax to support the arts in 2006, that pool of money has dwindled as smoking has declined, and in recent years there’s been a lot of controversy about who benefits and who doesn’t, and how to replace the vanishing money. It’s important to work together to search for some solutions.

If you’re interested in being part of this effort, the Cleveland Public Library’s Scranton Branch is holding an Arts Advocacy training, hosted by Arts Cleveland, the organization that conceived of and passed the original arts tax. It will provide attendees with the tools and information they need to influence arts policies. It’s aimed at both individuals and representatives of nonprofits groups.

It’s free but space is limited so register here.
