It’s Dogs on the March – in Costume! – at Lakewood’s Spooky Pooch Parade

Sat 10/19 @ 12:30-3:30PM

Most dogs aren’t particularly spooky. They’re just too damned friendly and happy. But at Lakewood’s 12th annual Spooky Pooch Parade you can dress him up and try (and probably fail) to scare people, who will tell him how adorable he looks costumed as a werewolf, shark or vampire.

Taking place at Kauffman Park in downtown Lakewood, the event starts with activities in the park at 12:30, including entertainment, games for kids, dog-related vendors and rescue groups. At 1pm there’s dog yoga, presumably your dog watching you do the yoga. Kids are encouraged to come in costume whether they bring a dog or not.

Then at 2pm the parade steps off as owners march their pets down Detroit Avenue. Afterward, at about 3:15, lucky parade participants will be awarded prizes in categories such as Best Pooch & Child, Best Pooch & Adult, Best Pooch & Group, Spookiest Pooch and Best in Show.

The festival is free to attend. To march in the parade is $10 in advance per dog, $15 day of event. Proceed benefit LakewoodAlive.
