Cleveland Rising Summit Aims to Identify Goals for the City’s Future

Tue 10/29-Thu 10/31

It may seem to you like every year some organization, entrepreneur or groups of civil leaders springs up to offer up the next big idea or engine for totally transforming northeast Ohio into an economic and cultural powerhouse.

We’re still waiting.

The Cleveland Rising Summit, described as “an initiative designed to build an inclusive and trusting foundation for setting priorities and attainable, measurable goals for Cleveland’s economic future,” takes place at Public Hall over a period of three days. Originating with a group of “more than 80 community members” who met late last year, it aims to assemble a diverse group of self-volunteered participants who commit to spending the whole two-and-a-half days involved in a process called “appreciative inquiry,” led by some of those community members “to explore residents’ experiences in the Greater Cleveland economy and their hopes and visions for a future where everyone is thriving.”

It’s free to attend and open to everyone but they say, “To ensure participants at the summit reflect the broad array of backgrounds and lived experiences of Cuyahoga County residents, organizers are asking for certain demographic information as part of registration. This data will help organizers fulfill their commitment to ensuring diverse and equitable representation.” So if your group isn’t well represented, they want you! Registration is on a first-come/first-served basis.

The full schedule and registration information are available here. It starts at 7:30am each day and goes through 5pm Tuesday and Wednesday, and 12:30pm on Thursday. There’s information about other ways to participate too, if you can’t commit the full two-and-a-half days or can’t get up at 7:30am and be remotely coherent.
