CIM Opera Theater Performs Contemporary Work “The Juniper Tree”

Thu 10/31 @ 7:30PM

Sat 11/2 @ 7:30PM

Sun 11/3 @ 7:30PM

The 1985 opera The Juniper Tree isn’t one of those works you’ll see routinely staged by opera companies, sandwiched between La Boheme and Madama Butterfly. Co-composed by noted minimalist composer Philip Glass and Robert Moran, who wrote alternating scenes, is based on a gory Brothers Grimm tale in which a woman murders her stepson afraid he reminds her husband of his first wife, and serves him in stew to his father. There’s revenge, of course, and it ends happily.

The Cleveland Institute of Music Opera Theater is tackling the piece however, and doing so creatively, with original films by Cleveland Institute of Art students made at Hale Farm and Village. Dean Southern directs and Harry Davidson conducts the cast of students and the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra in Mixon Hall.

Tickets are $10-$20.
