Cleveland artists Gary and Laura Dumm are spearheading the opening fall show at Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls, called Comix, which features educational material along with original work by local, regional and national comic artists.
The Dumms are ideally suited to put together a show like this. Gary is noted for his work illustrating graphic novels, including work by the late Harvey Pekar. As a team, the two have worked on projects together, with Gary doing the drawing and Laura providing the color.
The Dumms juried an open entry segment, and curated pieces by artists in order to illustrate movements in comic art history, with an emphasis on Ohio’s contributions. The show opens with a reception Fri 9/13 and runs through Wed 10/16.
