As part of the Cleveland Photo Fest, Indian photographer Unni Krishnan Pulikkal’s work returns to northeast Ohio, with a shot at the Foothills Gallery of the Photo-Succession.
For Translations, Pulikkal, a longtime friend of Cleveland Photo Fest co-founder Herbert Ascherman, pulled apart a brick of old black & white negatives, separated and cleaned 40 of them, place each on a backlit glass and photographed them with a macro lens.
“I was blown away by the deteriorated but recognizable human form, distorted and fragmented within the smudged emulsion,” says Pulikkal “It was a philosophical revelation about what would happen to any human being, be it in the earth or on ancient film!”
Foothills Gallery will show these 40 photos, in 20″ x 24” archival ink-jet images.
The show remains on view through Tue 10/8.
