Local Jazz Musicians Pay Tribute to Thelonious Monk at BOP STOP

Wed 10/9 @ 7PM

Guitarists Andy and John Karkosiak, bassist Bill Nichols and drummer Carmen Castaldi make up Great Day, an ensemble devoted to sharing the music of the jazz greats of the past century. Both Karkosiak brothers are up-and-coming musicians who have participated in Tri-C’s renowned jazz program, studying with such respected players as Dan Wilson and Ernie Krivda. Nichols came out of same program in the 90s before going on to Bowling Green State University. And Castaldi is, of course, well known in the local jazz scene with decades of experience, in Cleveland, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, under his belt since he graduated from Berklee College of Music in the 70s.

Together the foursome will take to the stage of the BOP STOP perform a tribute to influential jazz pianist/composer Thelonious Monk (1917-1982), known for his restless, jarring style of performance, and the oft-performed classics he wrote, such as “Straight, No Chaser,” “Around Midnight” and “Blue Monk.”

Admission is $15.
