Ernie Krivda’s Fat Tuesday Big Band Returns to Nighttown

Cleveland-based jazz tenor sax player Ernie Krivda has been involved with, and led, countless ensembles in his 56-year career. One of those, which he founded in 1993, is his Fat Tuesday Big Band, which held down regular Tuesday nights at various clubs around town for years, performing the large-ensemble music that was the dance/pop sound of around the time Krivda was born (1945). He described their sounds as “played to elevate the spirit and touch the hearts of its audience.”

The band’s been inactive recently but Krivda’s bringing it back for one night at Nighttown to celebrate “28 Years of Swinging.” It will feature a whole flock of the area’s best jazz musicians and three top-notch singers: jazz/pop/R&B vocalist Evelyn Wright, who performs regularly all over town; veteran jazz/soul singer Mike Cady; and Eric Keckan, who, as Erin Kufel, began singing with the group as a student in the Tri-C Jazz Studies program, but has recently taken time off time raise her children.
