Cleveland’s Blue Lunch Plays With Guest Tim Gartland @ BOP STOP

Thu 9/26 @ 7PM

Cleveland’s Blue Lunch has been around more than three decades, playing retro-styled swing/jump blues/R&B/early rock & roll. But that doesn’t mean they’re not still moving forward, doing new things.

This week that takes the form of a collaboration with vocalist/harmonica Tim Gartland, who joins the group for a show at the BOP STOP. They’re describing it as “an electrifying evening of blues and soul!” so they’ve set the bar pretty high — but it’s a bar these guys should easily be able to clear. Blue Lunch includes eight of the area’s top musicians, who’ve played a range of genres in a variety of settings. That includes a three-piece horn section (Chris Burge on sax, Mike Rubin on trumpet and Bob Michael on trombone), an ultra-experienced rhythm section (Ray DeForest on bass and vocals, Scott Flowers on drums and Mike Sands on piano), Bob Frank on guitar and vocals, and Pete London, who’ll face off with Gartland on harmonica and vocals.

Gartland has spent the past four decades hitting a succession of musical hotspots, moving to Chicago after college to soak in its vibrant and historic blues scene, then moving to Boston, and most recently relocating to Nashville. He released his fourth solo album Satisfied, featuring 10 self-penned tunes that combine roots rock, blues, soul and country influences, this past spring.

Tickets are $20.
