The 35-year-old nonprofit organization ARTneo is dedicated to collecting, preserving and educating about work by northeast Ohio artists from all eras. And its annual fundraising luncheon always honors a significant figure in Cleveland art.

There are few contemporary working artists in Cleveland more significant than Douglas Max Utter, whose 50-plus-year career was the subject of a retrospective exhibit Falling from the Sky of Now at the HEDGE Gallery this past spring. He’s also noted as an art journalist, and he co-curated the new show at ARTneo’s gallery, Outside the Mainstream: Douglas Max Utter Selects examines the figure in 20th and 21st century Cleveland art.

The annual brunch will pay tribute to Utter’s long and still-productive career. Guests will get to see the exhibition, and get the first chance to purchase an upcoming publication devoted to Utter’s work, co-sponsored by HEDGE Gallery and Bill Busta. Guest speakers are artist John W. Carlson and Marianne Berardi on Heritage Auctions. J. Pistone is catering the event, and live music will be provided by Leah Frank.

Tickets are $75, $50 for students, which includes complimentary cocktails as well as food.
