Neighborhood Pets Expands Its Services to More Low-Income Pet Owners

Neighborhood Pets Outreach & Resource Center has been a godsend for low-income pet owners in Cleveland.

A project of the nonprofit Friends of the Cleveland Kennel, the walk-in clinic, located in a storefront in Slavic Village, offers a free spay/neuter program, low-cost vaccines, flea/tick prevention & parasite treatment, affordable pet supplies, emergency pet food assistance and euthanasia services three days a week on a walk-in or appointment basis. It also offers education and training classes and weekly dog walks. The goal is to make it possible for Cleveland residents below 150% of the poverty level to keep and properly care for their animals.

Now, at nearly the three-year mark, Neighborhood Pets is taking the first step toward its goal of serving people in a wider area of Cleveland. It’s been looking for a permanent location in the Ward 10 area to serve residents of Collinwood, Glenville, St. Clair-Superior and Hough. Until then, starting on Sat 8/24, it’s providing services each Saturday at the Five Pointe Community Center, 813 E. 152nd Street, in South Collinwood (across from Collinwood High School).
