It hasn’t been the best year for fresh corn in Ohio. Heavy spring rains left fields too flooded to plant; a drive through northern Ohio in May — when seed should have been going in the ground — was like driving between lakes.
Despite that, the Coit Road Farmers Market’s annual Cliff Schultz Memorial Corn Roast goes on as usual. There’ll be the usual roasted corn, but they also doing a potluck element this year. Bring your favorite dish incorporating corn to share and enter in a contest to win $50 (first place) or $25 (second place). The kitchen will be available if you need to prepare your dish immediately before judging starts. And if you’d like to sell some of your dish, they’ll help you use their kitchen so it’s legal to do so.
There’ll also be meat options, veggies and drinks. Cost is $6 or $10, depending on what you order, which all goes to help run the nonprofit market. Come early and shop too — the market opens @ 8am.
