The book of the 1949 Rodgers & Hammerstein musical South Pacific hasn’t dated well, with a story containing relationships and attitudes that make modern audiences uneasy or uncomfortable. But no one can deny the appeal of wonderful, timeless songs such as “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m in Love with a Wonderful Guy,” “Younger Than Springtime,” “Bali Hai” and even the corny, somewhat sexist but spirited “There Is Nothing Like a Dame.”
The Cleveland Orchestra has joined with Baldwin Wallace University’s renowned music theatre program to present a concert production of the show at Blossom Music Center. The program’s director, Victoria Bussert, directed the show, which features both professional performers and current BW students, while Andy Einhorn, known for his conducting of Broadway shows and for serving as music director for Broadway star Audra McDonald, conducts the orchestra
