Ava Mendoza’s Unnatural Ways Brings Experimental Noise to the Beachland

Mon 8/26 @ 8PM

Brooklyn-based guitarist/vocalist Ava Mendoza formed her group Unnatural Ways in 2012. Since then, in addition to playing regularly around New York, they’ve performed at festivals in Canada, Europe and the U.S., and put out three full-length albums including The Paranoid Party released this past March.

With Tim Dahl on electric bass and Sam Ospovat on percussion, the trio makes music the combines elements of free jazz, noise rock and heavy metal for music that is aggressive and challenging. Their lyrics themes match their sound: “political paranoia, inclusion/exclusion, alter egos and alternate realities.”

The group will perform at the Beachland Tavern in a primarily seated concert presented by Cleveland’s New Ghosts promotions. Opening are three musicians from Cleveland’s jazz/ experimental scene: guitarist Mike Sopko, drummer Carmen Castaldi and sax player Dan Wenninger.

Admission is $15.
