Sugarcane Jane revolves around two Alabamans: husband and wife Anthony and Savana Lee Crawford. Multi-instrumentalist Anthony spent 25 years as a sideman for such acts as Rosanne Cash, Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell, Neil Young and Steve Winwood. Savana moved to Nashville where she did some songwriting, performing and managed a recording studio, where she met Anthony. She sang on some of his demos and one thing led to another … and another. As Sugarcane Jane, the veteran performers stir county, blues, gospel, soul, pop and more into an acoustic blend enhanced by their intuitive vocal harmonies.
Last December, Riverdog Retreat managed to get them to come play in their gallery when the duo booked a show in Columbus. Now they’re coming back with a full band to play outdoors in the barn. There will be room for dancing!
Making the evening even more special, the opening act is Cleveland guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Diana Chittester who recently opened for Lyle Lovett at Cain Park and in a mere three punchy tunes won over the crowd and earned two plaudits from Lovett onstage.
It’s $17 at the gate, $5 for kids and full-tie students with ID. There won’t be a food truck this week, but as always, people are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets and coolers.
