Those Tuba Christmas events are popular across the country: concerts where anyone who plays tuba is invited to get onstage and join in playing holiday favorites.
For those who need a mid-year Christmas-in-July tuba fix, the University of Akron also hosts its annual TubaSummer, now in its 20th year. Professor emeritus of music Tucker Jolly will lead an ensemble of tuba, sousaphone, baritone and euphonium musicians, solicited from players from across the region, playing summer-themed songs.
It takes place on Buchtel Common on campus or, in case of rain inside Guzzetta Recital Hall. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. It’s free.
