Rock Hall Plaza Concert Features L.A. Rapper & Local Hip-Hop Duo

Wed 7/24 @ 7PM

The Rock Hall’s Wednesday night Summer in the City series continues with some hip hop.

Headliner Open Mike Eagle originally hails from the hip-hop mecca of Chicago, and while he grew up in the now-demolished sprawing slum called the Robert Taylor Homes, it was clear he was moving on up in the world. He attended the Whitney M, Young Magnet High School, the same school Michelle Obama went to, and then migrated to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for college and to California for grad school.

There he joined the Project Blowed collective, and eventually went solo as well, performing was he calls “art rap.” His 2017 album Brick Body Kids Still Daydream reflected on growing up in one of Chicago’s notorious “projects.” He’s also hosted podcasts and a Comedy Central show called The New Negroes.

Opening the evening is Cleveland’s own two-woman act FreshProduce: Brittany Benton (DJ Red-I) and Samantha Flowers (Playne Jayne). The duo have made quite a splash in the local scene since forming four-and-a-half years ago.

The concert, which takes place on the plaza, barring bad weather, is free; there’s a bar and food available for purchase.
