Musical Theatre Project Shines Spotlight on New Musicals at Cain Park & BOP STOP

Wed 7/17 @ 7PM

Tue 7/23 @ 7PM

The mission of the nearly 20-year-old Cleveland-based Musical Theater Project is to educate audiences about the entire scope of musical theater, while promoting a love of and enthusiasm for this American art form.

While it’s The Song Is You! Series pays tribute to the popular music composers of the early-mid 20th century and the era known as The Great American Songbook, it’s For Good: The New Generation of Musicals series looks at the musicals that have been breathing new life into the form since 2000, imbuing with updated approaches, contemporary musical styles and modern issues. They include such musicals as Kinky Boots (2012) in which drag queens save a failing shoe business and Be More Chill (2015), confronting today’s high school bullying issues with a sci-fi twist.

For Good: The New Generation of Musicals, Vol. 4 offers a new set of songs in a show which includes multi-media elements that put the shows and the music into historical context. Sherri Gross and Nancy Maier co-host; Eric Fancher and Bridie Carroll perform the music. They’ll do the show twice: at Cain Park Alma Theatre Wed 7/17 and the BOP STOP Tue 7/23. Tickets for the Cain Park show at $28 in advance, $31 day of show. Tickets for the BOP STOP are $25.
