Karamu is getting really social this summer, hosting laidback summer gatherings with classic film screenings, linked to panel discussions and performances that amplify the film’s themes.
This week the Summer Karamu Film Series honoring director Spike Lee with show his 1990 film Mo Better Blues, featuring director Lee himself as the manager of a jazz group with two of its members (Wesley Snipes and Denzel Washington) warring about whether to fire him. And Washington’s character is romantically torn between two girlfriends.
The film will be followed by a musical performance, and the bar will be open to purchase drinks. Admission is $5.
