Akron Symphony to Perform Three Free Outdoor Park Concerts

The Akron symphony Orchestra kicks off its three-evening series of free Summer Parks Concerts this weekend at Forest Lodge Park.

These pops-style concerts include familiar classical pieces by Beethoven, Brahms, Dvořák and Offenbach, as well as noted film composer John Williams, music from Riverdance and traditional spirituals sung by tenor Brandon Bell. The program also features the world premiere of an orchestral arrangement of John Philip Sousa’s band piece, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.

ASO music director Christopher Wilkins will conduct all three concerts. There will be a food truck onsite for concertgoers to purchase food and drink. The orchestra will also be spearheading a Stuff the Bus school supply drive for Akron Public Schools students, with drop-off stations for supplies (find a list of supplies needed here.

The concert will be repeated at Goodyear Metro Park Sun 8/4 and Firestone Park Sun 8/11, also @ 7:30pm.
