It’s hard to avoid the conversations swirling around about what plastic debris is doing to our environment. From giant gyres of plastic in the ocean to sea creatures found with stomachs full of this junk to plastic microbeads polluting our lakes, it’s all been in the news.

Also in the news has been the push/pull of local governments banning plastic bags/bottles/straws, and in some cases, such as Ohio, state legislatures attempting to override these bans by banning the bans to please their plastic-industry lobbyist friends.

Summit Metro Parks is presenting a program called “Plastic-Free July,” where they’ll share the dangers of unlimited disposable plastics (even recyclables, which often don’t get recycled) and challenge people to “Choose to Refuse” single-use plastic items throughout July — or hopefully, much longer.

It takes place in the West Room at Goodyear Heights Metro Park’s Goodyear Lodge. It’s free. Call 330-865-8065 for more information.
