Apollo’s Fire Plays Its Annual Countryside Concerts

Thu 6/6 @ 7:30PM

Fri 6/7 & Sat 6/8 @ 8PM

Sun 6/9 @ 2PM

Mon 6/10 @ 7:30PM

Among Apollo’s Fire’s most popular concerts are its annual Countryside Concerts, which downplay the classical music in favor of folk-based music. This year “Far Beyond the Sea: Folk Ballads from the Old World” features the Early Folk Band — musicians from England, Sweden and Germany playing a variety of folk instruments including bagpipes, flutes, cornett, whistles and guitar. They’ll perform alongside three Apollo’s Fire regulars: soprano Amanda Powell, hammered dulcimer player Tina Bergmann and Brian Kay on lute, guitar, gourd banjo and long-neck dulcimer.

The program features traditional folk music that reaches across centuries and spans countries and regions. It finds a connection to Apollo’s Fire’s regular repertoire of classical music in the fact that composers of the 17th century often based their music on popular street and tavern tunes of the time.

They’ll perform at the rustic Baroque Music Barn in Hunting Valley Thu 6/6, Fri 6/7 and Sat 6/8 where seating is limited so hop on it if you even want to be on the waiting list. They’ll also perform the program at Avon Lake UC Church Sun 6/9 and the Bath Church UCC Mon 6/10. Tickets are $22-$57.
