The duo of Miranda Dawn and Chris Hawkes aka Dawn and Hawkes, met in Austin, where they live, in 2012. Shortly after that, they released their debut album, Golden Hearts, and began amassing buckets of praise for their Americana-infused acoustic singer-songwriter sound and intimate harmonizing. They began amassing a fan base through extensive national and international touring, performing with artists such as Old 97s, Allison Krauss and Patty Griffin, and appearances at South by Southwest and Austin City Limits.
Last year released their second album The Other Side, and finally made it to this part of the country, where they performed at Oberlin’s Riverdog Barn, a perfect setting for their thoughtful, organic music. They’re back there again, this time joined by Lorain County singer/songwriter Emily Keener, a familiar face at Riverdog. Though just out of her teens, she’s already an old veteran who released her first record at 15.
Admission is $17 at the gate, $5 for students with ID. Lorenzo’s Pizza will be back with wood-fired pies, but as usual, you’re welcome to bring your picnic basket and cooler.
