Those who have dropped in the Hartshorn Gallery during the monthly Walkabout Tremont have seen the work of painter Lila Rose Kole, who passed through town for a couple of years and worked at the Hartshorn Gallery before moving on to Berlin, where she now lives. Her dramatic, nature-inspired paintings, with their powerful use of color, teeter on the border between abstraction and representation, suggesting rather than depicting worlds of adventure and fury.
Welcome her back to town for a two-week stay when she presents new work at the Hartshorn Gallery during this month’s Walkabout Tremont. The show will also feature work by Berlin artist Kenno Apatrida. She’ll also be doing a talk/demo at BAYarts Thu 5/16 @ 6-8pm and a solo show at the Facing Forward Gallery at 78th Street Studios Fri 5/17 @ 5-9pm during Third Friday.
This is also the month Walkabout Tremont moves outside for the season for “Spring Fling.” Dr UR Awesome will be thrilling kids (and adults) with his giant soap bubbles; rock stacker Ed Cote will be showing off his unique skill; Reverbious, Alex Henry and the Chewy Center will be providing live music; and there’ll be tours of St. John Cantius and Sts Peter & Paul, two of Tremont’s many historic churches.
