Sister pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque are in town this week to play a relatively obscure dual piano concerto for the Cleveland Orchestra’s regular program.
But during their stay, they’ll also join orchestra members for a special family concert where they’ll perform Camille Saint-Saëns’s not-so-obscure The Carnival of the Animals, a 14-part suite of humorous short pieces that evoke such animals as elephants, tortoises, kangaroos, swans and lions.
Since the piece is less than half an hour long, there will be additional music by Gioachino Rossini, Leroy Anderson and George Gershwin. The orchestra’s assistant conductor Vinay Parameswaran leads the program.
Tickets are $15-$30.
