Roots of American Music Marks 20 Years With BOP STOP Event

Fri 5/31 @ 6:30PM

It’s been 20 years since Cleveland Heights-based nonprofit Roots of American Music (ROAM) launched, with the mission to use American roots music such as jazz, gospel, blues, traditional folk and early rock as an educational tool to bring alive myriad subjects including history, science and reading. Many of the area’s most gifted professional musicians have been part of its programs, performed in educational, public and various community settings.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary of arts education programming, ROAM is throwing itself a party, which also serves to mark the 10th anniversary of ROAM’s partnership with the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage on its Stop the Hate: Youth Sing Out program.

Of course, the evening, taking place at the BOP STOP, features lots of music by a variety of local musicians, including singer/songwriter/guitarist Diana Chittester, blues guitarist Sam Hooper, Jack Mizenko & Mark Ronan of the band Flipside, singer/songwriter Jason Patrick Meyers, ubiquitous on-call guitar player as well as bandleader and solo performer Ray Flanagan, frontwoman for one of Cleveland’s hottest young bands Punch Drunk Tagalongs Alisha Stahnke, and multi-genre singer/keyboardist/bassist Afi Scruggs.

The event, a benefit for ROAM, starts with a 6:30 VIP reception, doors @ 7:30 for general admission and concert @ 8PM. VIP tickets are $100; general admission tickets are $25. Buy tickets here.
