Who would have thought there are so many vegans (or would-be vegans) in Cleveland? But there was already a long line when the doors to VegFest, sponsored by the Cleveland Vegan Society, at the Cleveland Convention Center opened at 11am. In six years, the one-day event has exploded in size with more caterers and chefs, more speakers and films, more vendors and nonprofits, and even an area for the large number of kids in attendance to play. The diversity of the crowd was impressive too, with black, white and Asian, young and old, families and students and retirees. It’s hopefully an omen that Clevelanders want to eat a healthier diet and live a healthier lifestyle, whether or not they go vegan.
