PHOTOSTREAM: Ingenuity Dreamers Bal

05.04.2019 Ingenuity Dreamer's Bal

Raising the bar for artistic funraisers, Ingenuity once again re-envisioned and paid homage to the iconic Bal Masques hosted by Cleveland’s Kokoon Club, the gathering of modernist avant-gardes of the 1910’s to the 1940’s.

Well, we’ve come a long way. This year’s theme was Dreamer’s Bal, and the Ballers did not disappoint. Many arrived dressed to dream in their jammies, or in outrageous, dream-like outfits guaranteed to invoke hallucinations.

Developed over a regular series of year-round workshops, the volunteer Ingeneers designed and created exhibits to enliven the Ingenuity space in the Hamilton Collaborative space at 5401 Hamilton, a block NE of St. Clair & E. 55th Street.

Revelers cuddled up on custom designed giant beds, rocking chairs, clouds, a giant Jenga game, dream boats, pirate ships, a hot air balloon, a dream-like race car.

Taylor Lamborn, Sam Novak and Uno Lady performed, the Gypsy-Jazz Moustache Yourself got the feet tapping, and the sound waves grooved to postmodern jukeboxers Nah-Nah and DJ Byron Square Biz Lee, while genius video designer Kevin Jackson painted the venue with perplexing projections. Audiophile sound design by production director Chuck Karnak and his crew.

Fire and Light Performing Art, Get Hep! Swing Dancers, and Viva Dance Studio set fire to the dance floor, while aerial and pole performers Be Studios/Be Fitness swung suspended from the ceiling.

Custom libations by Watershed Distillery and Platform Brewery were paired with foodhall-meets-incubator Ohio City Galley’s four new occupants: Poca, Sauce the City, Tinman, and The Rice Shop!
