While Euclid Beach Amusement Park is 50 years gone, Euclid Beach State Park has been enjoying a series of upgrades in recent years to provide a more laidback type of recreation, which has accelerated since the Cleveland Metroparks took over running it.

This week Metroparks executive director Brian Zimmerman, the Metroparks board of commissioners, the Greater Collinwood Development Corporation and councilman Mike Polensek will host an official ribbon-cutting at the new Euclid Beach Pier.

The pier, originally intended as a place for passengers visiting the amusement park to disembark from ferries, has been reconstructed for fishing and new, improved views of the downtown skyline. The three arches at the entrance to the pier feature silhouetted scenes of the old park, created by northeast Ohio artist Brinsley Tyrrell.

Come down and welcome the summer!
