Kent/Akron native David Mayfield has built a significant national reputation in both bluegrass and indie rock. Like his sister Jessica Lea, who herself has earned acclaim for her dark, brooding, country-inflected music, he cut his teeth touring with his parents’ bluegrass band. Mayfield now juggles his own hybrid music with hardcore bluegrass, with his David Mayfield Parade and David Mayfield Bluegrass Parade (as well as solo performances and various collaborations).
When he returns this weekend to the Riverdog Barn in Oberlin, he’ll be bringing his bluegrass ensemble, featuring two-time National Bluegrass Banjo champion Steven Moore, vocalist/fiddler Christine King and bassist/vocalist Andrew Bonnis, with Mayfield himself handling guitar, mandolin and vocals.
Tickets are $17. There won’t be food onsite, but as usual, you are welcome to bring your own picnic basket and cooler.
