Learn about Domestic Abuse and “Reproductive Coercion” at Women’s Health Clinic Preterm

Thu 4/18 @ 6-8PM

The so-called “Heartbeat” bill passed by the Ohio legislature last week and signed into law by Governor DeWine, hurts women in countless ways. And the moralizing of those on the right who insist that women should be “more responsible” i.e. not have sex reveals a (perhaps willful?) misunderstanding of the situations many women find themselves in.

Patients to Advocates and Preterm will be hosting a panel discussion on what’s not an uncommon situation: reproductive coercion and domestic violence. Forcing a woman to get pregnant is one form of domestic violence, used by some men to control a woman and dictate her potential life choices, perhaps binding her to him and keeping her in an abusive situation because she can’t afford to leave with a child.

Megan Gergen, a training specialist for the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center, and Kristina and Jennifer, both alums of Patients to Advocates, will be the speakers at the event, which takes place at Preterm’s facility. There will be refreshments as well as discussion. Come learn how you can help or to get help yourself.
