Cleveland Opera Theater Presents “La Traviata” at the Maltz Performing Arts Center

Fri 4/26 @ 7PM

Sun 4/28 @ 3PM

Giuseppe Verdi’s 1853 opera La Traviata is classic grand opera and a repertory staple, featuring thwarted love, sacrifice and death. In it, a beautiful courtesan Violetta and Alfredo, from a respectable family, fall in love and move in together. But after she breaks it off for the sake of his family’s reputation, tragedy results. And it contains lovely and moving music that’s beloved by all opera lovers.

La Traviata is the next offering from Cleveland Opera Theater, which brings two fully staged performances to the Maltz Performing Arts Center with Domenico Boyagian conducting. Angela Mortellaro sings the role of Violetta; Benjamin Werley is her lover Alfredo, and Grant Youngblood is Alfredo’s father. The production features a live orchestra, scenery, lighting and costumes.

But that’s not even all! Cleveland Opera Theater has collaborated with Cleveland Burlesque to bring in some of their performers for the Act 11 party scene, including Cleveland’s burlesque queen Bella Sin, drag performer Kimmy Katarja and Lady Slay.

There will be English supertitles to help the audience navigate the Italian-language libretto and lyrics. Tickets range from $25-$100.
