Cleveland-based designer Valerie Mayen’s Yellowcake business has been through many permutations, including for a while a retail store in Gordon Square in the space now occupied by Superelectric Pinball.
But she’s never really left Gordon Square, and she was recently named the latest artist-in-residence there. As part of that role, she’s hosting Hi, Fashion, a free two-day event at Near West Theatre, focusing on making your wardrobe more sustainable.
It will include a “massive” clothing swap, free alterations, lessons on basic mending skills, special guest Dina Younis of Dina’s Days, sharing her insiders look a thrift/vintage shopping on Saturday, and artist Tammy Davis doing fashion illustrations of attendees on Sunday. Custom screen printers will be printing on upcycled T-shirts on Saturday, and there’ll be a raffle on Sunday with prizes from Yellowcake and other area businesses.
There’ll also be bites and coffee from Gordon Square businesses Brewnuts and Gypsy Beans & Baking Co.
