Gordon Square artist-in-residence, Yellowcake designer Valerie Mayen, is hosting a weekend called “Hi, Fashion,” focusing on sustainable fashion. To get things rolling and to educate people on what that means, she’s presenting a free screening of the film The True Cost of Fashion at the Capitol Theatre in Gordon Square.
The 2015 documentary looks at the fashion industry and its manufacturing and marketing practices, and goes behind the scene to show “the true cost” of dirt-cheap knockoffs and constantly changing “Fast Fashion” in their impact on labor and the environment.
Doors open at 6:30, film screens at 7pm. There’s free popcorn before the movie, a fashion drawing and information about how to dress more sustainable and still be chic.
