Maria Schneider is a star in the jazz world as both a composer and a bandleader. She launched her career in the mid 80s, working with jazz pianist Gil Evans and Sting. She leads the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, based in New York City, and has written many orchestral jazz works, as well as pieces for small ensembles.
She’ll be at Oberlin Conservatory as the guest director of the Oberlin Jazz Ensemble, part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the jazz program, joining the conservatory’s already world-renowned classical studies program.
The concert takes place at Oberlin’s Finney Chapel. It’s free.
