CityMusic Cleveland’s current music director Avner Dorman is a composer as well as a conductor. CityMusic’s audiences will get to hear one of his works at their next series of concerts, with the world premiere of his Dorman Still (Violin Concerto No. 3). Sayaka Shoji, the youngest and first Japanese winner of Genoa’s noted Paganini Competition is the soloist; she’s still on the rising end of her career at age 36.
The evenings open with Waltz from a film score by 20th-century composer Toru Takemitsu and close with Francis Poulenc’s 1947 work, Sinfonietta.
They’ll perform at St. Jerome Church in Collinwood on Wednesday, the Maltz Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Lakewood Congregational Church on Friday, the Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus on Saturday and St. Noel Church in Willoughby Hills on Sunday. As usual, the concerts are free, but the Maltz Center requires a reservation. Go here.
