Blues guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Robert Lockwood Jr. is gone but hardly forgotten. His distinctive style made him an international jazz legend and earned him many honors. But Cleveland was his home from 1960 until his death in 2006 at the age of 91 so Clevelanders had the chance to hear him and the Lockwood All Stars, featuring some of the area’s best jazz musicians, on a regular basis. And he was performing until just months before he died.

The Robert Lockwood Jr All Stars celebrate his birthday (March 27, 1915) with a show at the Beachland Ballroom. In addition to the All-Stars — Robert “Red Top” Young, D.C. Carnes, Jim “Gator” Hoare, Benny Mostella and Richard Smith — performers include the Wallace Coleman Band, Crazy Marvin, Gene Schwartz, Bob Kidney of the Numbers Band and Blue Lunch’s Bob Frank.

It’s free.
