West Shore UU Church Screens “Knife Skills,” the Story Cleveland’s EDWINS Re-Entry Work

Sat 2/9 @ 7PM

EDWINS Restaurant on Shaker Square has quite a story to tell. Not only is it an elegant French-style establishment perfect for a special occasion or a special date, but the attentive and knowledgeable staff are all ex-felons being trained for careers in the food service industry where what you did in the past is less important that what you are doing right now. Founder Brandon Chrostowski launched EDWINS Leadership & Restaurant to bring this mission to life, opening the restaurant in 2013. Since then he has added other pieces to the program, including a safe, supportive, affordable living space for those who work in his restaurant and a butcher shop on Buckeye Road where his staff can learn yet another skill set.

The story of EDWINS, how it came to be and what it does, is told in the short (40 minute) documentary Knife Skills, directed by Thomas Lennon, which debuted last year. It follows Chrostowski and three of the trainees who went through his program.

It will be screening as part of the social action film series at West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church. There’s always refreshments and discussion afterwards, Chrostowski is scheduled to be there to answer questions. It’s free and no registration is required.
