Sparkling Valentines Comprise “U + Me = Glitter” at Tremont’s Doubting Thomas Gallery

Work by Chris Young

Fri 2/8 @ 7-11PM

Sat 2/9 @ 2-4PM

What is it about glitter that keeps us enthralled, from the time we’re kids pouring it in quantity on our handmade cards? Sparkling, bright and colorful, it attracts the eye. But it’s become more than a kids’ craft medium. Serious artists have incorporated it into their work as well.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Tremont’s Doubting Thomas Gallery (now dubbed “the Doubting Thomas Art and Free Verse Space) is opening U + Me = Glitter, a show of more than 40 pieces of heart-themed art that involves use of glitter. As usual with Doubting Thomas, the pieces will include those by noted local artists such as Chris Yarmock and Nina Vivian Huryn (she’s sure to include skulls!) along with people you never heard of before and probably never will again.

All the pieces will be for sale if you’re looking for a Valentine gift for your sweetheart that breaks the chocolates-and-roses mold, along with a collaborative silkscreen titled LOVE created by Joan Deveney (Joan of Art) and John Saile.

On opening night, which coincides with Walkabout Tremont, there will be refreshments, live music and the “Sani-Kiss Kissing Booth” (you’ll just have to stop in to see what that is).

There’ll also be an open mic poetry reading on Sat 2/9 @ 2-4PM giving you another chance to see the show and read (or listen to) poetry too.
