Blank Canvas Theatre Mounts “Kiss of the Spider Woman” Musical

Fri 3/1-Sat 3/16

The 1985 Brazilian-American film Kiss of the Spider Woman, starring Sofia Braga, William Hurt and Raul Julia, seemed destined to be made into an outrageously over-the-top stage musical, with its plot set partly in a prison that involves a transgender woman, spies, revolutionaries and movie-based fantasies. And so it was, with the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical (with book by Terrence McNally) that debuted in London in 1992 and on Broadway in 1993, where it won the Tony for Best Musical.

Now Blank Canvas Theatre, which has a penchant for such fantastical scripts, is presenting it on its stage at 78th Street Studios, directed by Blank Canvas founder Patrick Ciamacco.

Tickets are $20. It runs through Sat 3/16.
