Wild & Scenic Film Festival and EnviroFair at the Cleveland Museum of Nature History Raises Awareness about Threats to Nature

Sat 1/26 @ 6PM

The Wild and Scenic Film Festival brings far-flung locales to audiences across the country with an evening of short films intended to share the beauty of nature, the threats to the environment and what people around the world are doing to address those threats.

For instance, there’s Lost in Light (pictured), a three-minute film by Sriram Murali, short primarily in California, looking at how light pollution affects how the night sky appears and how it changes the further you are from artificial lights.

Closer to home, the 12-minute Celebrating the Comeback of the Cuyahoga River, made by the Ohio EPA, looks at the 50-year journey from burning river to recreational treasure, and how the famous fire helped fuel the formation of the U.S. EPA and the passage of the Clean Water Act.

Others of the dozen films screening include ones about migrating raptors, a bat rescuer, a marina biologist working to save an octopus fishing area in Madagascar, a four-minute history of the national parks and an all-female anti-poaching unit in South Africa.

The films will be preceded from 6-7:30pm by an “EnviroFair,” featuring information tables from more than 15 local organizations working to educate about and protect nature or encourage environmental awareness. There’ll be a cash bar and free snacks. Films start at 7:30pm.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door for nonmembers, $15 in advance, $20 at the door for members.
