Magical Theatre Company Brings the Life of Harriet Tubman to the Stage

Fri 2/1 & Sat 2/2 @ 7:30PM

Sun 2/3 @ 2PM

Harriet Tubman is someone whose life is worth sharing with kids as an example of someone who would be widely viewed as a person without power who still managed to impact the lives of many other people — and on society as a whole.

Born into slavery around 1822 and disabled by a head injury in her youth, she escaped to freedom and then used her freedom to lead countless others out of slavery. She once said, “I was conductor of the Underground Railroad for eight years, and I can say what most conductors can’t say — I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger.”

Later in life she became active in the movement for women’s suffrage. Despite a rough life and many illnesses, she lived to the age of about 90, eventually dying at an old age home for African-Americans that she had helped create.

Northeast Ohio’s Magical Theatre Company is presenting Harriet Tubman: An American Moses for one weekend only. An adult cast performs the family-oriented production, which will be followed by a Q&A with the director and cast. Due to strong language using during the 19th century, the play is recommended for ages 12 and up.

Tickets are $15-$9. The theater is located at 565 W. Tuscarawas Avenue in Barberton.
