Learn About the Value of Bees and How to Protect Them at CVNP’s Happy Days Lodge

Fri 1/25 @ 7-PM

As any farmer or home gardener knows, bees are essential to the health and continued existence of our growing environment. And in recent years, there has been a lot of concern around “colony collapse” and the decline in the bee population. It’s been widely blamed on increased pesticide use, as well as habitat loss and parasites. Here in Ohio, species of bees that were once common have disappeared.

The Ohio Bee Survey was instigated to take stock of the situation, with scientists, park officials and ordinary citizens joining to look at what bees are found here and where.

Dr. Randy Mitchell, professor of biology at the University of Akron, specializes in the relationships between plants and pollinators. He’ll speak at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge in a lecture entitled “In Search of the Rusty Patched Bumble Bee.” (That bee hasn’t been spotted in the state since 2002). He’s explain what’s going on and how to help these critical pollinators survive and thrive.

Doors are at 6; lecture begins at 7pm. Admission is $10. Register here.
