Join a Live Groundhog to Celebrate Her Day at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History

Sat 2/2 @ 10AM

It is during weeks like these that we must remember that winter will end eventually, regardless of whether the famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow on Sat 2/2. We all wish a rodent could tell us when it will be over — but unfortunately Phil is only correct about 39% of the time.

Despite being more often wrong than right about the arrival of spring, the groundhog is an interesting and talented creature. In fact, our local Punxsutawney Phil, named Lake Erie Eddie, is quite the artist. Win one of his paintings, watch animal demonstrations, and make a pop-up puppet at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Groundhog Fun Day, starting at 10am.

Thistle the Whistlepig (another name for groundhog) will also be making a special appearance from 12:30-2:30pm. Being the runt of the litter, Thistle was brought into CMNH’s Wildlife Resources in 2015 when someone noticed her being neglected among the other five groundhogs in the litter.

There are a number of family-friendly activities to celebrate this strange tradition — all included in the regular admission — $17 for adults, $14 for youth 3-18, seniors and college students with ID. Don’t make this Groundhog Day like Bill Murray’s — change it up by visiting the Cleveland Museum of Natural History!
