Cats on Holiday Headline Jane Scott-Themed Benefit at the Beachland Ballroom

Sat 1/5 @ 8PM

About seven years ago, Beachland co-owner Cindy Barber founded a nonprofit called Cleveland Rocks: Past Present and Future, with the goal of promoting local music in Cleveland. It has undertaken a number of projects over the years to give local artists opportunities to play for new audiences and to give fans a chance to learn more about the local music scene’s history and its current players.

The Beachland Ballroom will be hosting a benefit for these projects, featuring local swamp rockers Cats on Holiday, playing music for dancing. The benefit is also themed in honor the late, long-time Plain Dealer music writer Jane Scott, recalling her annual post-Christmas parties at her Lakewood Gold Coast condo

“There Jane would welcome 50 to 100 of her friends and associates to nibble on old-fashioned hors d’oeuvres and mingle while marveling at her photos with famous rock stars,” recalls Barber. “In her bedroom, where the coats were thrown, there was an extensive hat and scarf collection. Jane brought us all together that first Saturday of the year, when everything was frozen and we were regrouping after the holidays.”

The Beachland will put some Jane Scott-type items on the menu, sure to evoke an affectionate smile among those who knew her. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
