Bask in the Legacy of Jazz Piano Great Bill Evans with Film and Concert at the BOP STOP

Sun 1/27 @ 6PM

Pianist Bill Evans was on the cutting edge of jazz in the ’60s and ’70s, and a major influence on subsequent jazz pianists. In the late ’50s, he performed with two legendary trumpet players: Chet Baker and Miles Davis, and his playing was a crucial part of Davis’ seminal 1959 album Kind of Blue. Despite a longtime drug addiction that eventually killed him in 1980 at the age of 51, he remained musically creative and productive for most of his life.

Bruce Speigel’s 2015 documentary Time Remembered covers his life from his childhood through his multitude of musical projects and collaborations, and includes performance footage and interviews with Evans, as well as with his friends and musicians he worked with.

The film screens at the BOP STOP, where it will be followed by a set of music composed by Evans, performed by the David Thompson Trio. Pianist Thompson has been travelling around the country hosting screenings of the film and master classes on Evans’ music. He’ll be doing a Q&A as part of this event. Tickets are $15.
