Les Delices & Quire Cleveland Join Forces for a Program Based on Traditional French Noels

Fri 12/21 @ 7:30PM

Sat 12/22 @ 8PM

Sun 12/23 @ 4PM

Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit (Midnight Mass), composed in 1694, is the centerpiece of three upcoming performances by two of Cleveland’s small classical music organizations: Les Delices baroque ensemble and vocal group Quire Cleveland.

Chapentier based his mass on tradition French Christmas hymns, rearranging them for a small orchestra and vocals that can be sung by solo voices or small choruses. That plays to the strengths of both ensembles.

The program sets the scene with three Noels sur les Instruments by 18th century French composer Michel Corrette, Charpentier’s “Dialogus inter angelos et Pastores Judeae,” and traditional Noëls (including those also used by Charpentier), arranged by Quire Cleveland’s founding artistic director Ross Duffin). The Messe de Minuit concludes the concerts, which will be conducted by guest conductor Eric Milnes.

The performances take place at Akron’s Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, Lakewood Congregational Church on Saturday and Our Lady of Peace Church in Cleveland on Sunday. Tickets range from $25-$35 with $5 tickets available for students.
